Popular folk-rocker Matt Turk Debuts "The Fog of War" Video on YouTube
OSSINING, NY - In December 2006 Matt Turk, a popular singer-songwriter and folk-rocker based in New York's Hudson Valley, released his then-new single "The Fog of War" as a free download off of his website. The spirited and heartfelt rumination on war through the generations has since touched tens of thousands of music fans, judging by the number of downloads, and Turk's song has even been featured on Neil Young's "Living with War" website.
Now, Turk and director-cameraman W. L. Jackson present a music video of "The Fog of War." Filmed in various locations around the Hudson Valley and New York City and edited by E. James Smith, "The Fog of War" features Turk and some of his musical associates, including Pete Seeger, the conscience of America's musical arts, who hangs an awesome country blues banjo riff on the recording.

"Writing 'The Fog of War' gave me a place to put my thoughts and feelings about the enormous suffering and loss of life in this unparalleled time of violence," said Turk. "The song is really a call for the preservation of life and a safer world for all while also giving honor to those veterans called to service. The video continues this endeavor, and I am grateful to W. L. Jackson for the unique visualizations and compelling creative insights he brought to the project."
In the video, Turk serves as a storyteller, leading the viewer on a day-in-the-life walk through places of influence and inspiration, with memorials, bridges, sculptures and photographs serving as a testament to the multitudes lost in war. Turk is seen performing his song along the riverside by himself and accompanied by Seeger, then at the end joined by bandmates Fred Gillen Jr, Steve Kirkman and Rob Morsberger, the keyboardist and producer who oversaw the "Fog" recording sessions at his New York studio.
A co-founder of The Hour, an early-1990s jam band, Turk released his debut album, What Gives, in 2002, and followed with his Washington Arms CD in 2006. A frequent sideman known for his guitar and mandolin virtuosity, he is also featured on the Fred Claus motion picture soundtrack performing "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." Last year Turk teamed up with fellow singer-songwriter Fred Gillen Jr to form Gillen & Turk; their debut CD, It Really Matters, is set for an April 2008 release.
